Trinidad Ciudad

Trinidad was the third Spanish settlement in Cuba after Baracoa and Bayamo. It used to be a very important harbour and apart from tobacco, sugar was the most important agricultural product. In the 19th century Trinidad was a wealthy town but all this changed during the two wars of independence. Now, Trinidad is a “museum town” (but surprisingly lively!) of about 70,000 inhabitants. This city is the best preserved Spanish colonial town in Cuba and therefore offers a wonderful atmosphere allowing the city to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage
Site in 1988. The older parts of town are well preserved as the Cuban tourism industry sees benefit from tour groups. In contrast, some parts of town outside the non-tourist areas are somewhat run down. Most evenings bars play live traditional music so one could practice their Son or Mambo skills.
